Shift from Feeling Anxious to Calm

I recently caught myself sitting in front of my computer screen, a blank document open, but absolutely unable to start writing a blog post. My thoughts were so scattered as I kept struggling with wanting to open up other tabs and checking my email, and even just getting a few words down was so impossibly hard. Are you feeling me on this?!

 

After I struggled with this for over 45 minutes I finally had to step away from the computer and went to the kitchen to cook myself something. Once I started preparing the ingredients( I was making a delicious Mexican style quinoa), cutting and dicing my vegetables, I began to feel relaxed and from that meditative state of mind I started seeing why this situation had escalated like this. The night before, my team and I had discussed the importance of delivering consistent and quality content to our community and I had told myself that the next day I needed to write. Now, let’s just observe that language for a moment - I “needed” to write.

 

Think back to yourself, what kind of results did you receive when you went after something that you needed to do, as opposed to wanted to do?

 

EXACTLY. The state of mind that I had put myself into had prepared me for self-destruction before I even began. I had put so much pressure on myself with emphasizing the importance of this content and needing to get it done, that I had forgotten the real reason as to why I was doing it. I write these blog posts because I love sharing with you the truth of what I experience and learn on my entrepreneurial journey. What kind of a mindset am I in when I’m writing from that state - relaxed, creative and genuine.

 

Next time you catch yourself feeling anxiety, self-doubt or stress - take yourself out of that situation for a moment.

 

It could be going for a walk, or as little as taking a few breaths - anything to get you out of that state so you can think more clearly. Then, get curious about what might be causing you to feel this way - more often than not, you’ll have your answer and from that awareness you can choose again how to approach your task. It's worked for me every time!
